Tongji University launches intl student community
The Tongji University International Student Community opened on March 22, welcoming its first cohort of more than 200 residents.
Located in the core area of Wujiaochang in Yangpu district, the community spans 17,800 square meters. It comprises five dormitory buildings with 519 rooms and can house up to 759 international students, offering a modern, well-equipped living environment.
Ye Linlin, deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Education, said the community's opening exemplifies an innovative model of collaboration among government, universities, and enterprises, providing a new example of how social resources can be revitalized to better serve the education sector.
Zhou Haiying, head of Yangpu district, said the community will help attract outstanding young people from around the world to study, exchange ideas, innovate, and start businesses in Yangpu by offering a high-quality, comfortable, and secure living environment.
Zhou added that the community will further promote resource sharing and complementarity of strengths between the district and the university, enhancing Yangpu's openness and connectivity with the world.
