A total of 46 battery energy storage units, each roughly the size of a standard shipping container and weighing 43 metric tons, were loaded onto the Liberia-flagged vessel Kraszewski as part of a larger consignment of 717 pieces of equipment, including transformers, wind turbine units, and blades.

The Lin-gang Special Area, where Nangang Terminal is located, has developed a comprehensive ecosystem for the energy storage industry, hosting more than 20 companies across the supply chain, including Tesla's energy storage Megafactory in Shanghai and CATL.

To better serve manufacturers in Lin-gang and the broader Yangtze River Delta region, Nangang Terminal has upgraded facilities, including dedicated storage yards, reducing logistics costs and improving supply chain efficiency.

These upgrades make Nangang Terminal the only port in Shanghai qualified to handle exports of battery energy storage systems.

Battery energy storage systems are classified as Class 9 dangerous goods under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code, requiring strict safety controls throughout transport and export. The shipment also involved complex operations due to varied cargo types, differing specifications, and extended port stays.

To ensure safe and efficient handling, Yangshan Border Inspection Station implemented round-the-clock supervision and full-process management, offering timely support.

Authorities issued five barge operation permits for this voyage, which lasted eight days in port with a total load exceeding 60,000 tons.
