Shanghai Science and Technology Museum unveils new upgrades
Fresh from a three-year renovation, the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum has introduced two new features: an upgraded "Rainforest Realm" exhibition area and a dedicated science and technology innovation space for youth.
The upgrades follow the museum's reopening in late January after a major overhaul that reimagined it as a smarter, greener, and more immersive science destination. Visitors can now explore more than 400 interactive displays across 10 redesigned permanent exhibition zones.
At over 3,000 square meters, the rainforest-themed exhibition is the largest of the museum's permanent zones. Drawing inspiration from the Xishuangbanna tropical rainforest, it recreates a miniature ecosystem, showcasing characteristic phenomena such as plant strangulation, buttress roots, and single-tree forests.
To nurture young people's scientific and technological innovation skills, the museum's youth camp has developed a curriculum focused on problem-solving and transforming creative ideas into tangible outcomes.
To date, the camp has developed 56 educational programs and is actively seeking partnerships with schools and social institutions to expand its offerings.
Looking ahead, the camp will provide a range of daytime courses and themed activities, including public welfare programs available to visitors by appointment. In the evenings, it plans to introduce diverse, hands-on science and technology innovation experiences for students and young professionals after school or work.
