Sept 17 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with members of the Asia Business Council attending an industry dialogue in the city. The delegation included Joe Tsai, co-founder and chairman of Alibaba Group.

Chen encouraged the business leaders to expand their investments in the city and bring more frontier businesses, R&D projects, technologies, and services to Shanghai, seizing the opportunities arising from the city's technological innovation, industrial transformation, urban renewal, and changing consumer demand.

Tsai and representatives of Triputra Group, Temasek, Schneider Electric, ABB Ltd, Charoen Pokphand Group, Fubon Group, AIA Group, Air Liquide, Hang Lung Properties Ltd, Esquel Group, Olayan Group, Salim Group, and McKinsey & Company, among others, spoke in turn. They shared their thoughts and suggestions based on their companies' operations in Shanghai and their trade and investment cooperation.

The business leaders expressed confidence in the development prospects of China and Shanghai and reaffirmed their commitment to investing in the city. They said they would seize development opportunities during China's 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), focus on Shanghai's key industries and areas of strength, and expand and deepen cooperation for mutual benefit.

Sept 17 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Brandon Craig, CEO of Australian mining company BHP.

Chen encouraged the company to seize opportunities arising from digital, intelligent, and green transformation, align more closely with Shanghai's development strategy, and draw on the city's strengths as a pioneer in the country's reform and opening-up drive, as well as its advantages in technological innovation, industrial ecosystem, supply chain management, and talent.

He encouraged BHP to deepen its cooperation with Shanghai and launch more new business activities, apply new technologies, and introduce new products in the city.

Craig said China and Shanghai had consistently provided a stable and open environment for development, which is important to BHP's strategic decisions and investments.

He said the company will continue to expand its trade and investment in the city, and explore opportunities for cooperation in commodity trading, technological innovation, and green development.
