Meet Shanghai's first 'city ambassadors': 30 voices, 8 languages
Shanghai introduced its first "city ambassadors" on May 19 – China Tourism Day. The 30 selected ambassadors, from both home and abroad, will tell the stories of Shanghai to global audiences in multiple languages.
The city ambassadors were chosen from among 503 candidates from diverse backgrounds: tour guides, museum educators, university students, and influencers.
They are aged from 21 to 58 and speak eight foreign languages. Among them are four expats — Rabea Froehlich, Mahmoud Soliman, and Artem Petrosian, from the Shanghai International Studies University, and Christian Devillers from cultural company Fotografiska (Shanghai).
Familiar with Shanghai’s history and culture, the ambassadors will tell stories of the city from their perspectives on various digital media platforms.
Shanghai is ramping up its efforts to become a world-class tourism city and the gateway to China for inbound travelers. As part of this vision, the city is working to improve its cultural and tourism services.
The ambassadors will present the culture, lifestyles and spirit of Shanghai to international audiences through multiple formats, including short videos, vlogs, speeches, exhibitions, and live-streaming.
