Shanghai sees 20 billion yuan spending over Dragon Boat Festival
During the three-day Dragon Boat Festival, which ended on June 2, Shanghai reported nearly 20 billion yuan ($2.78 billion) in total online and offline spending thanks to diversified consumption activities and promotions, according to official sources.
Total expenditure on online platforms and in physical stores during the first two days of the holiday increased by 4.1 percent year-on-year, according to the Consumer Market Big Data Laboratory (Shanghai).
Consumption in 19 major business districts reached 1.36 billion yuan, showing positive year-on-year growth, according to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.
Across the city, departure tax refund sales increased by approximately 110 percent compared with the same period last year.
Driven by trade-in policies, sales of home appliances, furniture, and digital products rose by 18.2 percent to 780 million yuan compared with the pre-holiday period.
