Wong Kar-wai TV series debut 'Blossoms Shanghai' expands intl release
Blossoms Shanghai, the first TV series by Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai, premiered on the British streaming platform Mubi on Feb 26, and is now available in select international markets.
The drama, set in 1990s Shanghai, follows the rise of Ah Bao, an ambitious young entrepreneur navigating the city's rapid economic transformation. It stars Hu Ge, Ma Yili, Tiffany Tang, and Xin Zhilei.
The series is now streaming in Latin America, Germany, Turkey, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, and India.
This marks a further expansion of Blossoms Shanghai's international reach following its releases in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as in Spain, Portugal, South Korea and North America.
To faithfully recreate the urban landscape and local customs of Shanghai at that time, the production team of Blossoms Shanghai spent several years in preparation, refining details ranging from the evolving skyline to everyday life, including clothing, cuisine, housing, and transportation.
Filming took place at landmark locations such as the Bund, the Peace Hotel, Fuzhou Road, and the Jinjiang Hotel. Since its broadcast in China, the series has sparked renewed interest in these sites, drawing fans eager to revisit the settings that shaped its story.
