Covering nearly 19,000 square meters, the center was jointly established by the Shanghai Hospital Development Center, Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Holding Co Ltd, and Orient International (Holding) Co Ltd.

It will actively attract innovative medical devices from around the world for their first-ever showcase.

At the launch event, 10 leading companies, including GE Healthcare, showcased advanced imaging systems, surgical robots, and intelligent diagnostic equipment, highlighting technological progress and clinical applications.

The center aims to bridge innovation and clinical demand. Leveraging Shanghai's medical resources, it will provide training and conference facilities to support professional development and technical exchange, helping frontline clinicians adopt new technologies and improving overall medical service capacity.

Zhao Dandan, Party secretary of the Shanghai Hospital Development Center, said the center is positioned as a market-oriented platform integrating product exhibition, clinical training, and trade facilitation, providing domestic and overseas companies with a gateway to enter the Shanghai market and expand nationwide.

In addition, the center will provide one-stop services covering concept validation, cross-border transactions, and business services.

By connecting hospitals, manufacturers, research institutions, and market channels, it aims to accelerate the transition from product showcase to real-world application and reduce commercialization costs.

The establishment of the center aligns with Shanghai's broader strategy to advance medical equipment innovation, combining international technologies with domestic innovations to improve hospital capabilities.

In 2025, level-4 surgeries, the most challenging and high-risk procedures under China's surgical classification system, accounted for 32.65 percent of total operations at municipal hospitals, while minimally invasive surgeries took up 27.78 percent, both higher than in 2024.
