Shanghai's railway stations are expected to record 4.83 million departing passenger trips during the May Day holiday period from April 29 to May 6, averaging more than 600,000 departures per day, a 5.42 percent increase year on year.

Peak outbound travel is expected from April 30 to May 3, with daily departures surpassing 600,000. May 1 is projected to reach 800,000 departures. The peak return period will fall between May 4 and 5, with more than 700,000 arrivals.

To accommodate this surge, Shanghai's railway stations have optimized train schedules based on peak operation plans. Additional passenger trains are being added on popular routes to Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Shandong, and Henan provinces.

Real-time passenger flow monitoring will be used to dynamically increase transport capacity. Measures include double-heading electric multiple unit trains and adding carriages to conventional services.

To improve the overall travel experience, stations will flexibly adjust passenger routes based on real-time passenger flows. During peak times, all security screening equipment will operate at full capacity, and additional manual security checks will be arranged to reduce entry times.

Extra staff and volunteers have been assigned to high-traffic areas, including station entrances and exits, platforms, waiting rooms, and elevators, to provide information, directions, and assistance to key passenger groups.

On April 30, a humanoid robot and two robotic dogs from Unitree Robotics will be on duty at Shanghai South Railway Station. On May 1, Croatian cellist Ana Rucner will perform with other artists for passengers in the waiting room of Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station.
