Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (Oct 13-19)
Oct 13 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Morten Wierod, president and CEO of Zurich-headquartered technology giant ABB.
Gong encouraged ABB to further optimize its investment structure, deepen its engagement in Shanghai's industrial development, and introduce more innovative programs in the city. He also invited the group to participate in the 8th China International Import Expo.
Wierod noted that Shanghai is ABB's business hub in China and reaffirmed the group's commitment to expanding cooperation with the city in areas such as electrification, automation, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors, aiming for shared growth.

Oct 16 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Jorge Macri, mayor of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Gong said direct flights between Shanghai and Buenos Aires are expected to launch by the end of this year, while next year will mark the 15th anniversary of their friendly exchange ties.
He said he hopes that the two cities will deepen cooperation in trade, investment, education, and science and technology, and strengthen exchanges in infrastructure, clean energy, and biomedicine to share development opportunities.
Macri praised Shanghai as a model of reform and development, highlighting its people-centered approach to progress.
He said he looks forward to further strengthening the friendship between the two cities, advancing cooperation in urban transportation, new energy, and solid waste management, and jointly addressing common challenges in urban development.

Oct 17 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Icelandic President Halla Tomasdottir.
Gong said he hopes for closer cooperation between the two sides in areas such as the green economy, digital economy, geothermal development, and biomedicine to promote sustainable growth.
Tomasdottir said that Iceland, rich in geothermal and marine resources, is home to many innovative companies offering creative solutions.
She said she looks forward to combining Iceland's innovation with China's vast market for mutual benefit and called for deeper cooperation with Shanghai on advancing sustainability to enhance shared competitiveness.
