Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (Nov 17-23)
Nov 21 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Muhammad Taufik, president and group CEO of Malaysia's petroleum company Petronas.
Chen said he hopes both sides will work together to advance green and low-carbon transformation and promote sustainable development. He encouraged Petronas to expand its presence in Shanghai and actively participate in building a green energy system.
Taufik described Shanghai as a key partner of Petronas in China. He expressed the company's willingness to further deepen cooperation across various fields, continue increasing investment in the city, and work together to promote green energy collaboration.
Nov 17 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P. and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Gong expressed his welcome for major forums like the Bloomberg Global Business Forum and the New Economy Forum to be held in Shanghai, which will help attract more global enterprises to the city. He also called for deeper cooperation and stronger ties between Shanghai and US cities, including New York.
Bloomberg underscored that this year marks the 30th anniversary of Bloomberg's operations in the Chinese mainland. He reaffirmed the company's commitment to supporting Shanghai's development into an international financial center.
He also expressed his willingness to promote exchanges between New York and Shanghai and deepen cooperation in areas such as urban governance and environmental protection.

Nov 17 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Xu Haoliang, United Nations under-secretary-general and acting administrator of the UN Development Programme.
Gong said he hopes the UN Development Programme will support Shanghai's digital and green transformation, and help facilitate technological exchange and two-way investment cooperation between Shanghai and potential global partners.
Xu said the UN Development Programme will deepen cooperation with Shanghai and share with more developing countries the proven practices from China, particularly from Shanghai, in smart city development, digital transformation, green growth, and municipal services.

Nov 21 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Fergal Dennehy, mayor of Cork, Ireland.
During the meeting, Gong said that Shanghai and Cork share close ties as the first pair of friendship cities established between China and Ireland. Since forging the relationship in 2005, the two cities have achieved fruitful cooperation across a range of sectors.
As the cities celebrate the 20th anniversary of their partnership, Gong called for deepening cooperation in areas such as green and low-carbon development, biomedicine, and advanced manufacturing, and encouraged enterprises from both sides to invest and expand in each other's cities.
Dennehy expressed his willingness to further strengthen cooperation between the two cities over the next two decades, particularly in urban renewal, education, and research, as well as cultural and tourism exchanges, to deliver even greater outcomes.
