Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (Sept 8-14)
Sept 9 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Lim Boon Heng and Teo Chee Hean, chairman and deputy chairman of Singapore's investment company Temasek. He also met with Kwek Leng Beng, chairman of Singapore's property and finance company Hong Leong Group.
Chen encouraged both companies to expand investment in Shanghai, deepen cross-sector cooperation, strengthen innovation and industrial ecosystems, and support the incubation of high-potential startups.
Lim expressed Temasek's confidence in the city's growth, highlighting plans to increase investment in areas such as digitalization, sustainable living, emerging consumer trends, and life sciences.
Kwek praised Shanghai's rapid transformation into a global metropolis and affirmed that Hong Leong will continue expanding its local presence, refining operations, and pursuing landmark projects in urban renewal and technological innovation to support the city's development.
Sept 8 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Park Heong-joon, mayor of Busan, South Korea. The two cities signed an agreement to further strengthen their friendship city relationship.
Gong said that Shanghai and Busan have maintained extensive and practical cooperation since establishing their friendship city relationship in 1993.
He welcomed South Korean companies to participate in the China International Import Expo, and called for stronger exchanges among enterprises, universities, research institutes, as well as cultural and artistic groups.
Park highlighted the active exchanges between the two cities in culture, tourism, and exhibitions, noting that many Korean visitors enjoy traveling to Shanghai. He said he hopes that both sides will continue to work together for mutual benefit.

Sept 9 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Francois Jackow, CEO of the French industrial and medical gas supplier Air Liquide Group.
Gong encouraged the group to expand investment in Shanghai, bring more high-end projects and resources to the city, and deepen innovation partnerships with local enterprises and institutions to support the city's industrial upgrading and green, low-carbon transition.
Jackow said that Air Liquide has invested over 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) in Shanghai and plans to continue expanding. He expressed the company's commitment to collaborating with local enterprises and universities to develop advanced technologies and contribute to China's dual-carbon goals.
