Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (June 22-28)
June 23 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Belen Garijo, CEO of the French biopharma company Sanofi, in Shanghai.
Chen welcomed Sanofi to further expand its innovation and R&D activities in Shanghai. He encouraged the company to introduce more innovative research projects and global co-development programs to the city, strengthen cooperation with local innovative pharmaceutical companies, and play a greater role in fostering a robust industrial ecosystem and advancing the development of the biopharmaceutical sector.
Garijo said the progress China has made in the biopharmaceutical sector and the pace of its transformation are highly impressive, reinforcing Sanofi's confidence in continuing to invest and deepen its presence in the country.
She added that Shanghai is a key city in Sanofi's global footprint and an important innovation hub. Sanofi will continue to expand its business presence and enhance its R&D capabilities in the city, fully leverage China's vast market opportunities and strengths in scientific and technological innovation, and bring more new medicines and products to global markets, benefiting patients worldwide.

June 23 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Brendan Nelson, group chairman of HSBC and a member of the International Business Leaders' Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai.
Chen called for deeper collaboration with Shanghai in areas including technology finance, green finance, urban renewal, cross-border and offshore finance, and services that support Chinese enterprises in going global.
Nelson and HSBC Group CEO Georges Elhedery expressed HSBC's willingness to leverage its professional strengths and the IBLAC platform, enhance experience in sharing, and expand its business functions in areas such as offshore finance, technological innovation, and services supporting Chinese companies' global expansion.
June 22 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Jonas Prising, chair and CEO of ManpowerGroup, a leading US workforce solutions company, and his delegation in Shanghai.
Gong said Shanghai welcomes world-renowned companies such as ManpowerGroup to leverage their strengths, actively participate in the city's development, and introduce more advanced service concepts. He encouraged the group to make full use of its global business network and resources to help Shanghai better leverage its openness in attracting talent, explore innovative approaches to talent exchange and cooperation, and bring in more leading professionals across various fields.
Prising said that ManpowerGroup will leverage its global resources and information networks to help outstanding talent from around the world identify opportunities in Shanghai, while also supporting Chinese companies in going global.

June 23 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger and her delegation in Shanghai.
Gong said that, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Austria, Shanghai stands ready to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Austria.
He expressed hope that the two sides will deepen economic and trade cooperation as well as cooperation in industrial investment, and support enterprises in investing and operating in each other's markets in areas such as intelligent manufacturing, the green economy, and the digital economy.
Meinl-Reisinger said Austria is home to a high concentration of innovative enterprises, noting that 220 Austrian companies have established a presence in Shanghai. She highlighted the significant potential for cooperation between the two sides in areas such as high technology, green transition, mobility, and industrial innovation.
She also expressed hope for deeper exchanges among universities and young people, as well as expanded cooperation in culture, arts, and tourism, to further strengthen friendship between the people of Shanghai and Austria.

June 23 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Heidi G. Petz, chair, president, and CEO of US-based paint and coatings company Sherwin-Williams.
Gong said he hopes Sherwin-Williams will further enhance the capabilities and functions of its Shanghai headquarters, deepen integration into the city's local manufacturing supply chains, and support Shanghai's industrial transformation toward intelligent, green, and integrated development.
Petz said the company looks forward to leveraging Shanghai's advantages as an international trade center and shipping center to better serve customers in China and around the world. Sherwin-Williams will continue to increase its investment in Shanghai, seize development opportunities across a wide range of industries, and contribute to the city's efforts to foster new quality productive forces.

June 23 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Mike Radossich, CEO of Belgium-based specialty materials company Syensqo, in Shanghai.
Gong said he hopes Syensqo will continue to expand its investment and business presence in Shanghai, contribute to the city's growth as an international science and technology innovation center, accelerate the early application of more technological achievements in Shanghai, and actively support the city's green and low-carbon transition as well as its efforts to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
Radossich said Shanghai plays a significant role in Syensqo's innovation-driven development strategy. Having established an innovation center in Shanghai, Syensqo looks forward to further expanding its operations in the city and growing alongside Shanghai.

June 26 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Guinean Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah and his delegation in Shanghai.
Gong called for closer cooperation between the two sides in areas such as energy, scientific and technological innovation, port logistics, infrastructure development, and climate governance. He also encouraged enterprises from both sides to invest and expand their businesses in each other's markets and to share development opportunities.
Bah said that Guinea pays close attention to Shanghai, where one can glimpse the future of the world. He expressed hope for further strengthening exchanges and cooperation with the city.
