June 19 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

Chen encouraged more New Zealand businesses to invest in Shanghai and actively participate in the China International Import Expo, bringing more high-quality and distinctive products to the city.

China and New Zealand have enjoyed fruitful ties since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1972.

Luxon praised Shanghai as a dynamic international metropolis. He expressed his hope to expand cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, technology, culture, education, and tourism, while strengthening mutual understanding.

June 19 – Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Harvard professor Graham Allison.

Chen highlighted how Shanghai has become one of the safest cities in the world. He offered his assurances that the city will continue to uphold the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, while also contributing to the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US relations at the local level.

Allison said that the US-China relationship is one of the most important bilateral relations in the world. He called for practical cooperation on key global challenges such as climate change, economy, trade, and artificial intelligence.

June 17 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Fernando Arias, director-general of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Gong said he regarded the OPCW's inaugural AI training program in Shanghai as a significant opportunity to strengthen collaboration. He conveyed his eagerness to enhance cooperation in areas such as the application of technologies and the transformation of research outcomes into real-world applications.

Arias said that Shanghai's development serves as a valuable reference for the world. He said he has been consistently impressed by each visit to the city, and voiced his hope that China will leverage its strengths in science and technology to work with the OPCW in ensuring that emerging technologies contribute to peace, human well-being, and the security of all humanity.

June 20 – Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with four chief executives attending the Global Exhibition CEO Shanghai Summit 2025.

They are: Chris Skeith, managing director and CEO of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry; Marsha Flanagan, president and CEO of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events; Vincent Polito, CEO of Society of Independent Show Organizers; and Wolfram Diener, president and CEO of German exhibition company Messe Düsseldorf.

Gong welcomed more internationally renowned convention and exhibition companies to establish a presence in Shanghai and encouraged the launch of flagship conventions and exhibitions in the city.

He called for the introduction of more high-level exhibitions centered on new technologies, emerging industries, and new consumer trends.

Skeith praised Shanghai for its status as a globally recognized hub for exhibitions and conventions. He conveyed his desire to deepen cooperation with the city, enhance global connectivity, and unlock more opportunities for growth.
