Photography exhibition sheds light on city's evolution
Shanghai: Capital of Photography 1910s-2020s, an exhibition that traces the intertwined histories of Shanghai and the medium of photography over a span of a century, is being held at the Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum.
From pioneering works of the early 20th century to contemporary expressions, the exhibition showcases Shanghai as seen and presented through a series of photographs taken over the course of a century.
Visitors are guided through a chronological journey structured around four main themes. From the visual depictions of the Suzhou Creek and the Huangpu River, the city's two "mother rivers", to the immersive recreation of historical scenes like the 1956 China Export Commodities Expo, each section offers a unique perspective on Shanghai's historical significance and its evolution.
The exhibition highlights 268 works by 35 photographers and artists who have long resided in Shanghai, along with over 80 other related documents and exhibits.
It culminates in an interactive experience in which visitors can partake in a portrait shoot, adding a personal touch to this visual odyssey.
The exhibition will run until May 5.
