The 2024 annual conference of the International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM), the largest and most influential academic event in the international Chinese mathematics community, opened in Shanghai on Jan 3.

Shing-Tung Yau, the first Chinese-born laureate of the Fields Medal and the founder of ICCM, stated that for more than two decades, ICCM has played a vital role in connecting scholars from home and abroad. Despite speaking different languages, these scholars share ideas through the universal language of mathematics. Yau also noted that the focus of talent cultivation in mathematics will shift to China.
