Need a quick and easy way to make payments while you're in Shanghai? Here's your go-to guide for smooth and hassle-free transactions during your stay here.

1. Bank card—swipe with ease!

International credit cards like UnionPay, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express are accepted at CIIE. Many taxis in Shanghai now have POS machines that can process foreign card payments. Keep your card handy for those spontaneous purchases!

2. Mobile payments—join the E-wallet club!

Want to pay like a local? Alipay and WeChat Pay are your best friends! You can link your international bank card directly to these apps. Just download the app, switch it to English, and follow the setup instructions. Once you're ready, simply scan QR codes and pay seamlessly.

3. ATMs—your cash backup!

Need a bit of cash on the go? ATMs are plentiful in Shanghai, including around the CIIE venue. Most ATMs accept international cards like UnionPay, Visa, and MasterCard, making it easy to withdraw some local currency if needed.

4. Cash—Old school cool, but not essential

While China is largely cashless, cash still works, especially at smaller vendors and some food stalls around the CIIE venue. You can exchange money at banks, airports, or even at certain hotels for those nostalgic moments when paper money still rules.
