Shanghai Shopping Festival sparks surge in city's retail scene
The Shanghai Shopping Festival has transformed the city into a shopper's paradise.
The event, which began in late April and is set to continue until the end of this month, features over 1,000 activities, including 15 flagship events such as the Shanghai Nightlife Festival, the Shanghai Art Season and the Shanghai Global Gourmet Festival.
Iconic locations like Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, Yuyuan Garden and Shanghai Disney Resort have emerged as the most preferred choices among visitors.
The festival has significantly boosted consumption. During the May Day holiday, citywide online and offline consumption reached 53.03 billion yuan ($7.3 billion), with green and smart home appliance sales increasing by 40 percent compared to regular weekends. The subsequent Dragon Boat Festival holiday saw a total consumption of 31.07 billion yuan, indicating a 17.3 percent year-on-year increase.
Following the Shanghai Shopping Festival, the city is said to launch the Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season, which runs from July to October.
