Shanghai has brought a series of cultural exchange activities to Mauritius to celebrate the bonds of friendship and cooperation between China and the African country.

The Shanghai Week activity series officially kicked off at the city hall in Curepipe, Mauritius, on June 3.

As a prelude to this event, Shanghai Film Week opened at the Trianon cinema in Port Louis. On the evening of June 2, the Shanghai National Music Orchestra presented a special performance at the Jinfei Cooperation Zone Auditorium. The meticulously prepared show incorporated percussion instruments and other musical instruments that are familiar to African audiences. When the orchestra played the well-known Mauritian dance tune Li tourner li tourner as an encore, the audience became so excited that they started tapping their feet to the rhythm, many recording the moment on their phones.

As the performance concluded, Mauritian Acting President Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon took to the stage to express his admiration to the performers, praising their skills. He thanked the Shanghai delegation for bringing such high-quality entertainment to the country, allowing the Mauritian audience to enjoy a musical feast.

On the morning of June 3, the "Shanghai: Infinite Possibilities" photo exhibition opened at the National Library of Mauritius in Port Louis. Over 40 photographs were on display at the exhibition, showcasing the city’s towering skyscrapers, water towns in the Yangtze River Delta region, Western-style architectural marvels blending with traditional Chinese gardens, modern conveniences, and picturesque natural landscapes. The photos were captured by seasoned photographers who have long been observing Shanghai's urban development, photography enthusiasts from the general public, and even foreign friends living in Shanghai.

This activity series was co-hosted by the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce in Mauritius, fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two regions.
