According to the Announcement of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (No 54 of 2010) on Defining the Duty-free Regulations on Personal Belongings of Inbound Passengers and current relevant provisions, resident travelers entering China with personal items obtained overseas valued at up to 5,000 yuan (inclusive) and intended for personal use will be exempted from taxes by Customs. For non-resident travelers bringing items for personal use in China valued at up to 2,000 yuan (inclusive), Customs will grant a tax-free passage. These items must be of reasonable quantity and intended solely for personal use.

However, tobacco products and alcoholic beverages shall also comply with the duty-free quantity limits specified in the relevant regulations.

Resident travelers entering China with items for personal use exceeding 5,000 yuan, which are deemed for personal use after examination by Customs authorities, will be subject to taxation on the excess amount. For non-resident travelers entering China with items for personal use with a value exceeding 2,000 yuan, Customs will levy taxes on the portion exceeding this amount. However, indivisible single items exceeding the limit will be taxed at their full value.
