When you’re wandering around Shanghai and nature calls, don’t worry. A WeChat mini-program can help you find the nearest public restrooms.

Search for “上海智慧寻厕” (Find a toilet in Shanghai) in WeChat.  

Open the mini-program and you will see a map of nearby public restrooms. 

The blue icon indicates the restroom is open, while the grey icon indicates it is closed. The blue ones with a small purple icon mean that it has been upgraded to meet the needs of the elderly and infants. 

Click a blue icon to access the restroom’s information including opening hours and user reviews. The map’s navigation function will guide you to it. 

There are other ways to find public restrooms in Shanghai. You can type “公厕” (Public toilet) in the search bar of the Gaode Map (Amap) app.The map will display the locations of nearby restrooms.
