Shanghai international advertising competition calls for entries

The 2024 Shanghai International Public Service Advertising Competition is calling for global entries from Sept 13 to Oct 31.

Hosted by the municipal government of Shanghai, the event features three main categories – beautiful world, cultural China, and tech life.

Two special sections – youth creativity and corporate public service advertising – have been added, along with a public voting segment to encourage wider participation in public welfare. Winners will receive prizes.

Domestic and international advertising entities, educational institutions, media, and individuals passionate about advertising creativity and public service communications are welcome to participate.

Work requirements

I. Three main sections:

The event features three main sections – a beautiful world, cultural China, and tech life. Participants can submit their works on topics such as China's vision of an ecological civilization, the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, the unique characteristics of Shanghai culture, and the impact of technology on life and industry.

Each main section features three categories – graphic works, audio-visual works, and digital innovation works. Participants are invited to submit their entries according to the following guidelines:

Graphic works: This category includes newspaper ads, poster designs (including dynamic posters), photography, paintings, and more. A series should ideally consist of around four pieces as a set, with each piece's size not exceeding 10 MB. Entries must be in JPG format, with a resolution of at least 400 DPI, color mode in CMYK or RGB, and sized A4 or A3. All works should be in simplified Chinese.

Audio-Visual works: This category encompasses short videos, microfilms, animations, and more. Video submissions should have an aspect ratio of 16:9 (horizontal or vertical), with a minimum resolution of 1280 x 720, in MP4 format, and not exceeding 100 MB. Videos should feature simplified Chinese subtitles. Audio submissions should be in MP3 or WMA format.

Digital innovation works: This category includes VR, AR, and XR work, generative AI work, games, and public service dissemination cases. Participants should provide the original experience file, original link, or a project summary report. Submissions should be in PDF format and not exceed 10 pages.

II. Two special sections:

The competition also sets out two sections – youth creativity and corporate public service advertising. The requirements for each category are as follows:

Youth creativity works: This category is targeted at teenagers under 18 years old and includes various types of works such as electronic drafts of posters (hand-drawn are allowed), software design work, public service vlogs, and other public service promotional videos.

Corporate public service advertising works refer to commercial advertisements created by brand enterprises that focus on corporate social responsibility and public service.

Submission requirements

Works published or completed between Jan 1, 2022, and the submission deadline are eligible for participation.

All submissions must be original works.

Awards

1. Three main sections: Under three categories of each major section, each category has the following awards:

Grand Award: one winner, with a prize of 100,000 yuan ($14,090).

Gold Award: one winner, with a prize of 30,000 yuan.

Silver Awards: three winners, each with a prize of 10,000 yuan.

Bronze Awards: five winners, each with a prize of 5,000 yuan.

Winners are responsible for all taxes and fees related to the prizes.

2. Youth creativity works:

The Best Creative Works: 10 winners to win physical prizes.

3. Corporate public service advertising works:

The Best Public Service Works: 10 winners.

4. Cultivation awards: 10 awards for outstanding organizations and individuals.

Excellent work awards: 140 winners, with no more than 10 awards per category.

5. Entrepreneurial support:

Individuals or teams that win the Grand Award or Gold Award will receive support for entrepreneurial projects.

Submission procedure

Collection time: Sept 13 - Oct 31

Participants should register on the official competition website (sipsac.cn), providing accurate personal details and contact information. They should select the appropriate category and upload their work.

All entries must be submitted online. The file name for each submission should follow the format: "Category + Organization Name/Author Name + Title of Work". Multiple submissions of the same work are not allowed.

The final list of winners will be determined by the end of November.

Promotion of outstanding work

After approval by the organizing committee and with the consent of the authors, the award-winning work will be archived on two websites – shwm.gov.cn and fw.scjgj.sh.gov.cn/alc. The archived work will then be available for free public use.

The work will be displayed on various media platforms, creating a positive atmosphere for public service.
