Recap: Intl exchange activities of Shanghai leadership (June 10-16)

June 15 - Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining met with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia's coordinator for cooperation with China and coordinating minister of maritime affairs and investment.

Chen highlighted that as Shanghai accelerates its transition towards digitalization, intelligence, and sustainability, the potential for cooperation with Indonesia grows significantly. He expressed hope to further deepen friendship-city relationships, enhance cultural exchanges, promote industrial alignment, and expand practical cooperation and mutual learning in areas such as green and low-carbon development, new energy, education, and healthcare.

Pandjaitan reaffirmed Indonesia's strong commitment to building its relationship with China and leveraging complementary advantages. He expressed a desire to expedite the development of cooperative projects in areas such as green energy, education, healthcare, sports, culture, and talent training, in order to better benefit the people of both countries.

June 13 - Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with the United States Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns and his delegation.

Gong highlighted that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. He expressed his hopes for strengthening pragmatic cooperation between the two sides to jointly address challenges such as climate change. Additionally, he emphasized Shanghai's commitment to supporting the development of NYU (New York University) Shanghai, promoting high-level collaboration among universities and research institutions, and fostering exchanges among young people.

Burns expressed his pleasure in witnessing the fruitful exchanges and new connections established between Shanghai and the cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York. He pledged to encourage more American companies to participate in the China International Import Expo and expressed hope for more collaboration in areas such as climate change, culture, and sports.

June 14 - Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with diplomatic envoys from 26 countries, who were in Shanghai for a promotional tour to enhance cooperation between international enterprises and Chinese State-owned enterprises.

Gong warmly welcomed the visiting envoys, stating that Shanghai is eager to share its urban charm and investment potential with the world. He also stated that the city is actively strengthening its international cooperation efforts. He expressed hope to deepen economic and industrial cooperation with various countries and welcomed outstanding enterprises from around the globe to invest and develop in the city. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of expanding cultural exchanges in order to promote mutual understanding and appreciation of different civilizations.

Several envoys noted that Shanghai is an open city at the intersection between China and the world. This visit has allowed them to witness the significant progress the city has made in various fields. They expressed great anticipation for deepening collaboration with Shanghai across multiple sectors.
