Shanghai Airport Group, which runs Shanghai's Hongqiao and Pudong airports, has unveiled a streamlined logistics process for cross-border e-commerce goods, with a particular focus on lithium battery and cosmetic products.
This move has significantly boosted the efficiency of exports from Shanghai. It caters to the soaring demand in the cross-border e-commerce sector, which constitutes a remarkable 11 percent of the airport group's total cargo and mail throughput from January to May.
To tackle the complexities associated with shipping battery-charged items and cosmetics, the Shanghai airport authority has collaborated closely with e-commerce platforms, aviation experts, and airlines to establish a seamless transport system and clarify transport requirements for such goods. This collaborative effort has not only streamlined the shipment process but has also bolstered operational efficiency at the airport while driving down logistics costs.
In recent years, Shanghai Airport Group has been steadfast in its commitment to enhancing its services, exemplified by the launch of the AviPort platform. This platform seamlessly integrates with the China (Shanghai) International Trade Single Window, ushering in a new era of digitalization in air logistics.
Furthermore, the Shanghai airport operator has made substantial investments in hardware infrastructure, including the construction of a state-of-the-art smart cargo terminal and a centralized inspection center at Pudong International Airport's west cargo area. These advancements are geared towards meeting the stringent customs clearance requirements of air cargo, further solidifying Shanghai's position as a global logistics hub.
From January to May, Shanghai's two airports handled a staggering 1.66 million tons of cargo and mail, reflecting an impressive 15.39 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The two airports now boast connections to 277 destinations across 51 countries and regions, including 58 all-cargo destinations in 31 countries and regions. Notably, the Pudong airport currently ranks third globally in terms of cargo volume.
