Gong Zheng, male, Han ethnicity, was born in March 1960. He is a member of the Communist Party of China and holds a doctorate in economics.

Duties

The mayor is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive operations of the municipal government. His responsibilities include the following areas:

- Coordination of the development and reform initiatives, including those related to energy and pricing;

- Comprehensive management of the population;

- Fiscal matters, auditing and taxation; 

- National defense mobilization; 

- Construction of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone along with its Lin-gang Special Area

- Integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta;

- Handling of suggestions and proposals;

- Government transparency promotion;

- Supervision of the Shanghai Administration Institute.
