Shanghai's 'Summer + Olympics' blend boosts spending

Shanghai is embracing sports fervor, brought on by the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games, by hosting a series of events during Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season.

These activities aim to integrate sports with daily life, such as dining, travel, shopping, and entertainment, thus creating a vibrant atmosphere that fuels consumption.

A sports festival at the North Bund International Passenger Center in Hongkou district kicked off on July 27 coincided with the Olympic Games opening in Paris, offering a mix of sports, entertainment, and culinary delights that thrilled attendees.

The festival offered live performances, interactive shows, sports activities, and experiences including exploring old Shanghai buildings and savoring unique ice cream flavors.

The Olympics economy concept is now in the spotlight, with retail giant Lianhua leading Olympic-themed initiatives.

The Xingguo Branch of Lianhua Supermarket has set up an Olympic-themed shop in collaboration with its suppliers. During the Paris Olympics' closing ceremony, the store will exhibit the actual Olympic torch from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is preparing for a new Summer + Olympics spectacle, providing a platform for locals and tourists to celebrate the Team China's achievements.

Upcoming events include a sports bazaar at Xuhui Riverfront from Aug 2 to 4, featuring Olympic event broadcasts, food, live music, and outdoor movie screenings.

Ruihong Xintiandi shopping area in Shanghai's Hongkou district also held a sports-themed event on July 20, which is set to run until Sept 1, offering activities like rugby experiences, discounts, and entertainment.

Additionally, the Shanghai PetJoy Championships debuted on July 27 in Shanghai, aiming to promote the integration of business and sports in the Yangpu Riverside area during the Olympic Games.
