Construction on the pilot zone and the eastern section of the Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone is set to be completed by the end of 2025,announced the zone's developer as it celebrated the first anniversary of the zone’s construction.

According to its construction plan, the Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone, which began construction on Feb 28, 2024, will start operating under closed management by 2028 and be fully established by 2030.

The cooperation zone is designed to serve three core functions: enhancing international business exchanges for short-term stays, supporting international expos and fairs either within the zone or by establishing offices outside the zone, and setting up international training sessions in practical industries such as mega medical equipment utilization and virtual flying.

In addition to the above functions, the cooperation zone will offer catering, entertainment, and living services that meet international standards. Once the pilot zone is completed, international passengers will be allowed to stay in the zone for 30 days or in some cases longer without a visa, provided they hold valid invitations from the zone's administrative agencies. If passengers need to leave the zone for other destinations, they can apply for a visa at the customs offices.

Pudong International Airport will facilitate connectivity by operating shuttle bus services between its terminals and the cooperation zone. Additionally, checked luggage can be transported directly to passengers' hotel rooms. Procedures such as flight check-in, tax refund processing, security checks, and customs clearance will be available within the zone.
