Introduction

Shanghai Civil Defense Museum, SCDM for short, is located on the 7-10th floor of the Civil Defense Building, No 108, Ruijin No 2 Road. It covers an area of 4400 square meters, comprising Introduction Hall, Civil Air Defense Hall, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Hall as well as Featured Exhibition Area of Urban, District, and Subdistrict Level Air Defense Science Popularization Museums. It focuses on imparting knowledge and skills related to civil air defense and various effective measures against modern air raids by means of displaying air raids incidents in history, modern air raid weapons and the features of modern air raid. Given the actual situation of Shanghai, SCDM outlines the formation, potential hazards and protective measures for various disasters, including typhoons, storm surges, lightning, earthquakes, tornadoes, fire accidents, chemical accidents as well as infectious diseases.

One of the museum's most striking features is its use of interactive exhibits that engage visitors in experiencing and mastering air defense protection and self-rescue techniques. These exhibits involve 4D Live Cinema, Metro Emergency Evacuation Simulation, and CPR Experience. As a comprehensive public safety and science popularizing base with free-charging advantages, SCDM works for raising public awareness of air and civil defense, helping citizens, especially youngster, master relevant protection skills and techniques, and sharpening urban integrated defense capabilities against various warfare and disasters.

The SCDM is designed to provide a comprehensive, systematic introduction to air and civil defense, covering the roles, responsibilities, knowledge and skills related to air defense and disaster prevention measures.

Civil Air Defense Hall

Civil air defense refers to the government mobilizing and organizing the public to take protective actions to prevent and mitigate airstrike hazards. Civil air defense, together with homeland air defense and field air defense constitute the air defense system in China, which plays a significant role in the modern national defense. In informatized regional wars, air strikes and anti-air warfare has become the main combat style to reach the goal in a regional war. Strengthening air defense is of vital importance as it protects people's lives and property, reduces economic losses, as well as preserves war potential. It also carries significant historical implications for safeguarding the nation's security.
