Founded in 1951, Donghua University (DHU) is one of the 75 universities under the direct management of China's Ministry of Education. The university's International Cultural Exchange School (ICES) provides various popular non-degree Chinese language programs at its downtown campus in Shanghai. DHU's Chinese language programs are accredited by EAQUALS (Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services) for high teaching quality and management, which is the first institution to get this accreditation in China.

In the coming fall semester of 2024, ICES will continue to offer the General Chinese Program, which will provide students with a high-quality learning experience that is rich in learning resources and friendly support.

2024 Fall Semester Program Information

1. Schedule

September 9, 2024 - January 10, 2025

9 am - 12:15 pm, every Monday to Friday(Beijing Time)

2. Program Plan

Different Levels

Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced (Minimum class size is eight students).

You will take a placement test to evaluate your Chinese proficiency and then be arranged in the proper class based on the test results. Placement test information will be emailed to you before the start of the semester. In the first week of instruction, you are allowed to change your course level within a specific timeframe.

Learning Materials

This program utilizes the textbook series "Chinese in Real Life". In addition, ICES will provide various learning materials, including flashcards, recorded videos, dialogue videos, audio, course summaries, etc.

An online learning management platform stores all learning materials and assignments, making it easier for students to review the course content at any time.

3. Fees

Application fee: 600 yuan ($83)

Tuition: 10,800 yuan (covers textbook fee)

Insurance: 400 yuan per semester

4. Other

Visa

The university will provide student visa and residence permit (study) application documents for students on a case-by-case basis. Please consult the ICES office for details.

Accommodation

Students can apply for campus accommodation. Please check your email frequently and read official notices carefully.

Refunds

Application fee: Non-refundable

Tuition:

-- Full refund: study terminated before the start of classes.

-- 50 percent refund: study terminated in the first week of study.

-- No refund will be accepted from the second week of study onwards.

Insurance

To ensure their safety, international students in China are required to purchase insurance, of which the validity should be enough to cover one's study duration. Full-time students at DHU should buy the designated insurance, which is 400 yuan per semester, during the registration period.

5. Application & Admission

-- Upload an image of the applicant's passport page, visa page, and an ID photo.

* New applicants recommended by past or current international students who have studied at Donghua will enjoy an application fee waiver. The full name of the referrer is needed.

* A student who is continuing their studies will enjoy an application fee waiver and tuition deduction. Please wait for further information.

Admission

After submission, the application will be officially evaluated. We aim to give potential students a decision via email within 10 working days. If you are admitted, you will receive an email with the relevant information for the online placement test and enrollment affairs for the new semester.

September 4 to 6, 2024 (tentative)

* All students are required to enroll and complete the registration procedures within the designated period. Anyone who fails to enroll in accordance with the requirements will be disqualified by the school. Please check your email to keep up to date with the latest official news.
