Residence permits for short-term work

I. Who can apply:

Expats who meet any of the following conditions and intend to stay for more than 30 days and less than 90 days may apply for a residence permit for short-term work:

1. To complete certain technical, scientific research, management or guidance tasks with domestic partners;

2. To receive trial training at domestic sports institutions (including coaches and athletes);

3. To produce films (including advertisement campaigns and documentaries);

4. To perform in fashion shows (including car models and print advertisement models, etc.);

5. To engage in foreign enterprise-related commercial performances;

6. Other circumstances as identified by human resources and social security departments.

II. Documents required:

1. The applicant's original, valid passport and visa;

2. A completed Visa and Residence Permit Application Form for Foreigners, and the applicant shall go to the local exit-entry administration of public security organs in person to take a free photograph, or the applicant who meets the relevant requirement of applying for visa without coming in person shall submit one color identification photo (taken within 6 months, white background, 2-inch, bareheaded, without modification, photographic paper printed, without smears);

3. An original and photocopy of the Notice of the People's Republic of China on Work Permits for Foreigners (for a work period of 90 days or less in China) issued by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, or the short-term work permit and the Affirmative Administrative Licensing Decision issued by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Cultural and Tourism concerning the performances;

4. An application letter from the applicant's organization;

5. An original and photocopy of the business license or a relevant registration certificate of the organization, and, if the business license does not contain its unified social credit code, its organizational code certificate.

Notes: 1. Foreign entertainment performance groups or individuals shall make this application at the exit-entry administration of the public security organ in the city where the performance organizer is registered or where the premiere takes place;

2. In-person application is required;

3. Exit-entry administrations of public security organs may, as they deem necessary, require applicants to attend an interview or submit additional supporting documents (such as proof of financial support, proof of change of information such as name, or business operation certificate, etc.). Applications which fail to provide the requisite information within the required time will be rejected, unless caused by a force majeure event.

4. All decisions of exit-entry administrations of public security organs rejecting applications for extension, replacement or re-issuance of ordinary visas, or rejecting expats' applications for residence permits or permit extensions, shall be final.
