What is the limit on items that individuals can bring into and out of China?

When entering or leaving China, individuals must honestly declare their belongings to Customs and allow them to be inspected. It's important to keep the items you bring within a reasonable amount for personal use.

The tax-free limit for personal items brought into the country is 5,000 yuan ($687.64). If you exceed this amount, you will need to pay tax. If you are carrying duty-free goods that are worth over 100,000 yuan, it may lead to legal consequences. If you're unsure about whether you need to pay tax, use the red declaration channel.

For residents, the tax-free limit remains at 5,000 yuan for items bought for personal use outside the country. They can also make tax-free purchases at duty-free shops at entry points, as long as the total tax-free shopping both inside and outside the country doesn't surpass 8,000 yuan.
