For divorces between those with a permanent residence in Shanghai and expats, both involved individuals must go to the marriage registration office and adhere to the following procedure.

Documents and certificates required for divorce registration

(1) Marriage certificate;

(2) Divorce agreement signed by both parties;

(3) Valid passports or international travel documents.

Divorce agreement shall record both parties' intention of voluntary divorce and consensus on issues of bringing-up children, property and liability.
