Getting divorced
To get divorced, you must go to the marriage registration office and adhere to the following procedures.
Documents to prepare
1.For your Chinese spouse:
1) Personal ID card and household registration permit
2) Marriage certificate;
3) Divorce agreement.
2. For you:
1) Marriage certificate;
2) Divorce agreement;
3) Valid passports or other international travel documents or permanent resident permit.
Photos: two 2-inch color group photos of you and your spouse.
Marriage registration
You need to go to the Shanghai Marriage (Adoption) Registration Center to handle the divorce procedures.
The Shanghai Marriage (Adoption) Registration Office is located on the third floor of Building D of the Everbright Exhibition Center at No 80 Caobao Road and is open from 9 am to 11:30 am and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, Monday to Saturday (except for national holidays).
If the documents submitted are complete and valid, your divorce application will be accepted. After the cooling-off period (30 days) expires, a divorce certificate will be granted.

Reminder:
1.You can't apply for a divorce if you didn't register your marriage in the Chinese mainland or the Chinese embassy or consulate overseas.
2. The Divorce Agreement must be written in Chinese. If it is translated into a foreign language, a copy of the business license of the translation company stamped with the official seal must also be provided.
