What do you need to do when you first come to Shanghai? Here is some information that you'll need to know.

If you're here to work, study or travel, but you're staying at a friend's house, or a temporarily rented room, apartment or house, then you'll need to register at the police station nearest to the place that you're staying within 24 hours of arriving here in Shanghai.

1. If you live in a hotel

The registration should be handled by the staff members at the hotel.

2. If you live in residential communities

The registration should be handled at:

  • service windows of the public security substation providing household registration services and the public security service windows stationed in community administrative service centers
  • platforms such as Overseas Personnel Service Stations and Immigration Integration Service Stations
  • online self-registration platforms (Self-help Declaration System for Overseas Personnel's Accommodation Registration).
