Welcome to Shanghai: A guide to your health check

If you're planning to live, work or study in Shanghai for a year or more, you'll need to complete a health check at the International Travel Healthcare Center. This step is crucial for applying for residence and employment permits.

This guide explains how to book and complete the health examination. 

 

Location:

The Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center is situated at No 15 Jinbang Road in Changning district.

Reception hours:

Health checks are available from 8 am to 11 am, Monday to Friday. Depending on demand, additional health check sessions may be offered on Monday through Thursday afternoons and on Saturdays. Specific arrangements depend on the day's appointment schedule.

Appointment:

You must book your appointment at least two weeks in advance.

Search for the WeChat official account "上海国际旅行卫生保健中心" and tap "预约 Booking" under "Services," or scan the QR code below with WeChat.

Follow the instructions on the page to complete your online booking.

Documents required:

1. Passport: The original passport and one set of photocopies of the photo page, the visa page, or the page showing the visa-free entry record, and any pages recording changes to personal information.

2. Photos: Three identical two-inch color photos taken within the past six months, showing the applicant without headwear.

3. Forms: After booking, access the two-page Health Examination Application Form through "My Appointments" and download the Consent Form. Print and complete both forms, then bring them with you.

4. Additional documents:

(1) For applicants seeking a residence permit for work: An employment certificate issued by the relevant local foreign experts authority, a photocopy of the employer's business license, or the original and a photocopy of the applicant's Foreigner's Work Permit.

(2) For applicants seeking a residence permit for study: The original and a photocopy of the student ID card or admission letter.

(3) For accompanying family members: A photocopy of the business license of the employer of the person you are accompanying, or other relevant supporting documents.

(4) For other residence-related purposes, including visiting family, purchasing property, seeking medical treatment, getting married, returning to China for permanent settlement, or other reasons: Bring a photocopy of the Registration Form for Temporary Residence issued by the public security authority, the original and a photocopy of your property ownership certificate, or other relevant supporting documents.

5. If you have an overseas health examination report: Bring the original report for reference if the check was completed within the past six months at an embassy-designated hospital in the country or region concerned, along with the original laboratory test results and X-ray film.

Collecting your health certificate:

Three working days after your health check, you can pick up your health certificate in person at Window 2 of the Public Service Center at the Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center by presenting your original valid ID and certificate collection receipt. Alternatively, after the health check, you may apply in person for courier delivery; the certificate will be delivered three working days after the examination. To protect the security and privacy of your health check results, any change to the collection method must be made in person at Window 2 of the Public Service Center at the Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center.

Notice:

  • Do not eat for five hours before the health check (drinking water is allowed).
  • Complete your health check as soon as possible after arrival to avoid delays in subsequent visa-related procedures.
  • If any abnormalities are discovered during the health assessment and a reexamination is required, the center will contact the applicant and send them a reexamination notice. The applicant must report to the designated department within the specified period, bringing their original valid ID and the invoice for the health examination fee.
