Editor's note: China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has curated 82 national boutique rural tourism routes to enrich summer cultural and tourism experiences.

Among them, Shanghai offers three unique routes in its Jinshan, Fengxian, and Qingpu districts. Explore one of these captivating journeys below in Fengxian district.

Itinerary: Huating Seawall (Fengxian section) - Wufang village - Qingxi Old Street - Liyao village - Fengcheng City Walls

Transportation:

Self-drive: About 53 kilometers from the center of Shanghai (People's Square) to the Fengxian section of the Huating Seawall by car, with a travel time of about 60 minutes.

Huating Seawall (Fengxian Section)

Dating back to 1725, the Huating Seawall, a part of the Jiangnan Seawall, spans 20 kilometers. Uncovered in 1996 during some road work, the seawall is the earliest remnants of the coastline in Shanghai. Dubbed the "mini Great Wall of Shanghai", it's a must-see for history and culture buffs.

Wufang village

Wufang village features the Yellow Peach Industrial and Cultural Creative Park, museums, boutique inns, and more.

Visitors can enjoy fun experiences like stove cooking, field camping, and team-building activities. With its rich history and various offerings, Wufang village is regarded as being a premier escape from urban life.

Qingxi Old Street

Qingxi Old Street offers a blend of cultural creativity and historical charm. Visitors can explore museums and experience traditional Chinese medicine care, unique dining options, boutique hostels, and cultural venues.

Liyao village

Liyao village in Fengxian district's Qingcun town offers a serene escape with boutique cafes. Enjoy leisurely strolls, farm-to-table cuisine, and a tranquil ambiance surrounded by fields. It's regarded as being ideal for relaxation and culinary explorations.

Fengcheng City Walls

Fengcheng City Walls, dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911), feature Chaoyang, Zhenhai, Fucheng, and Gongchen gates – each standing at 8.33 meters tall. Designated as a cultural relic protection site in 1997, this historic site offers a glimpse into ancient architecture.

Fengxian's local delicacies include Fengxian fried cakes, Haitang cakes, Fengxian yellow peaches, yellow peach wine or soda, pear paste, and pear soda.
